About This Destination
It was once a major trading and cultural center along the Silk Road, flourishing between the 9th and 15th centuries. Abiverd played a crucial role as a stop between Nisa and Merv, connecting Persia, Central Asia, and Khorasan.
History
The ruins of Abiverd fortress still stand today — a large circular citadel surrounded by remnants of ancient city walls, mosques, and caravanserais. Archaeological excavations have uncovered ceramics, coins, and architectural fragments revealing the city’s rich past.
